The Stomach in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Alternative Medicine and Natural Health in NYC

The Stomach is considered a Yang organ in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is energetically paired with the Spleen.

In TCM, the Stomach is said to “receive and ripen” food. The nutritional essence of the food is then transformed by the Spleen and transported to the rest of the body. The two organs work very closely and are responsible for digestion. Symptoms associated with imbalances in the Stomach are nausea and vomiting, bloating, indigestion, belching, loss of appetite, and thirst. Clinically, the importance of the Stomach organ has been more relevant to herbal medicine in China than to acupuncture.

The energetic channel associated with the Stomach begins at the eye at travels down the front of the body and the leg to end on the outside of the second toe.
