The Gallbladder in Traditional Chinese Medicine![]() Alternative Medicine and Natural Health in NYCThe Gallbladder is considered a Yang organ in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is energetically paired with the Liver. Its function is similar to the function of the gallbladder in Western medicine: it stores and excretes bile. Clinically, the Gallbladder and Liver are closely connected and are often treated simultaneously. The Gallbladder is related to the will in Chinese Medicine. A strong Gallbladder is associated with courage and decisiveness, where as a weak Gallbladder manifests as timidity and indecision. Indecision can actually be treated with acupuncture points related to the Gallbladder. The energetic channel associated with the Gallbladder begins at the side of the eye, covers the side of the head and travels down the side of the neck, body and leg, ending at the side of the fourth toe. |
