Acupuncture Point: Urinary Bladder 40
Alternative Medicine and Natural Health in NYC
Bladder 40 is an acupuncture point located on the back of the knee. It is also known as Wei Zhong or Middle of the Crook.
Bladder 40 is known as the command point of the back. It is one of the mostly commonly used acupuncture points for precisely this reason, as back pain is one of the most common complaints. Patients new to acupuncture who come in for back pain are often confused when, rather than putting a needle in their back, I ask them to roll up their pant legs. Regardless of the cause, this is the point for back pain and often the only point you will need. If the blood vessels at this point behind the knee are engorged, the point can be bled as well. It is also, incidentally, one of the most important points for knee pain as well.
Bladder 40 is also one of the primary acupuncture points indicated in skin conditions such as eczema or urticaria.
