Acupuncture Point: Pericardium 6

Pericardium 6 is an acupuncture point located on the inside of the forearm near the wrist, between the two prominent tendons. It is also known as Nei Guan or Inner Pass. This is one of the most researched acupuncture points and is best known in the medical community for reduce the nausea associated with undergoing chemotherapy. The ability to alleviate nausea and vomiting extends to nausea and vomiting of any kind, including morning sickness during pregnancy or seasickness. Wrist bands that apply pressure to this point are sold for just this reason and in a pinch you can apply pressure here with your thumb if you’re feeling nauseous.

In addition to its ability to control nausea, this point is also one of the predominant points to treat disorders of the chest. It is known as the command point of the chest and it is useful both in conditions associated with the lung such as asthma and in those associated with the heart such as angina and palpitations.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Pericardium is said to protect the Heart and the Heart is said to house the mind. Due to these relationships, Pericardium 6 is a powerful point to calm the mind and is appropriate in any situation where the mind is agitated.
