Acupuncture Point: Large Intestine 11

Alternative Medicine and Natural Health in NYC

Large Intestine 11, also known as QuChi or the Pool at the Crook, is located on the outside of the elbow, at the end of the elbow crease.

Large Intestine 11 is the primary point acupuncturists use to clear Heat. Heat is characteristic of fever and of inflammation and this point will often be selected in these conditions. Sore throat, thirst, redness and hot skin frequently accompany Heat conditions. Heat can also describe mental states characterized by agitation and mania.

Large Intestine 11 is also an important point to treat diseases of the skin. This includes urticaria (hives), shingles, eczema and rashes. For this purpose, it combines well with Bladder 40, which is located in an analogous location on the leg, behind the knee.

In modern clinical use, Large intestine 11 is regularly used to treat hypertension. It is also, due to its location, used to treat conditions affecting the arm.
