Acupuncture Point: Kidney 3
Alternative Medicine and Natural Health in NYC
Kidney 3 is an acupuncture point located just behind the inner ankle. It is also known as Tai Xi or Supreme Stream. This point is one of the primary points to tonify the Kidneys.
Kidney Qi declines as we age and Kidney Qi can also be exhausted by protracted illness, long-term stress, poor nutrition or fear. Hereditary conditions are also thought to be related to the Kidneys in Chinese medicine. Symptoms classically associated with Kidney deficiency include back pain, knee pain, tooth problems (loss, decay, looseness), deafness and tinnitus, incontinence and night-time urination, graying or loss of hair, and reproductive problems such as infertility or impotence.
The Kidneys can be deficient in Qi, Yin, Yang or Essence, but Kidney 3, known as the source point of the Kidney, is indicated in any type of Kidney deficiency. Interestingly, certain types of asthma are related to a Kidney Deficiency, the Kidneys are “failing to grasp the Qi” brought down by the Lungs. Kidney 3 is often indicated in asthma.
